Inspired by the Finnish word for music: Musiikki. We chose the name Musikkii because Finland is widely recognized as a world leader in music education and holistic learning. The playful rearrangement of letters reflects our innovative approach — one that values creativity, accessibility, and a fresh perspective on what music education can be.

The First Lessons
Our founder, Matt Shill, began teaching guitar, piano, and drums as a high school freshman in 2010. Working with kids in his community, he ignited a spark that would lead to a lifelong passion of teaching and music education.
The University of Maimi
Matt attended the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, where he studied Music Business alongside dual primary instruments in Guitar and Vocal Performance. This balance of artistry and business laid the foundation for Musikkii’s future approach to music education.
Music Tech Studios
Matt joined Music Tech Studios in Pembroke Pines, Florida, a world-class teaching studio where he taught hundreds of students. There, he learned first-hand what it takes to build a thriving teaching business: strong systems, supportive communities, and an unwavering commitment to quality.
Building My Own Studio
After leaving Music Tech Studios, Matt began teaching independently in North Miami Beach, Florida. This was the first step toward creating his own studio model.
Building During Covid
When Covid hit, Matt moved to Colorado and launched Matt Shill Music, LLC. Overnight, he shifted every student online. What began as a necessity quickly became a revelation: students were still thriving, and families loved the convenience. This moment revealed the potential for a fully online model.
A Proven Online Model
As the world reopened, Matt noticed something striking: students who stayed online were thriving, and parents valued the flexibility of lessons without a commute. The online-first model wasn’t just working — it was the future.
Expanding Into Tech
During this time, Matt also trained as a full-stack web software engineer. He built websites, completed internships, and developed skills in coding and systems design. This new expertise opened the door to building a tech-enabled platform for music education, one that could serve students, parents, and teachers at scale.
Birth of Musikkii
With the vision taking shape, Matt poured his full energy into building a new kind of music lesson company. The name Musikkii was born — inspired by the Finnish word for music — along with its logo, mission, and roadmap.
2025 and Beyond
Today, Musikkii is stronger than ever. All lessons are 100% online, supported by a subscription model and premium learning technologies. From those first neighborhood lessons to a platform with students across the U.S., Musikkii’s journey has only just begun.
